Letter to Michael McDowell TD, the then Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform: “The Children’s Rights Alliance welcomes the recent announcement by the Minister that the existing Garda Síochána Complaints Board is to be replaced by a Garda Inspectorate, with investigative powers similar to that of an Ombudsman. The Alliance sees the strengthening of a complaints system for the Garda Síochána as an important step in the promotion and protection of the rights of all citizens, including those of children and young people, as they interact with the Gardaí.”
