Food poverty is multidimensional, encompassing a lack of access to a nutritionally adequate diet and the impact on health and social participation. Government initiatives to tackle food poverty include a number of school-based initiatives including the provision of school meals. However, there is a need to support further initiatives which cover school holidays or for days when the school is closed.
In order to address the issue of holiday hunger, the Children’s Rights Alliance supported by Enterprise Rent-a-Car will fund four projects that provide direct food support to families in communities across Ireland.
It is anticipated that these projects will provide support over a four-week period during the summer months when schools are closed. The bespoke initiatives will be delivered by Alliance members and target families experiencing food poverty.
