Their mission statement is "Association for Criminal Justice Research and Development exists to promote a wider public understanding of the administration of criminal justice, the causes and prevention of delinquency / crime and the treatment of offenders."

Their objectives are:

• To undertake or participate in research in the area of crime and delinquency
• To promote rational, just and humane policies
• To promote the highest standards of practice by professionals working in and associated with criminal justice
• To support dialogue on an informal basis between professionals who work in the field of crime prevention and law enforcement
• To build links with relevant organisations in Ireland and abroad
